We pray for young people who live in the world’s danger spots.Young people who experience warfare and enmity as a daily event.Young people who have watched their homes destroyed, their parents hurt orkilled.Young people who have never known what it means to relax and chill out. These are your young people and we pray for them: We know you love them
With the trouble in Egypt on the news every night you cannot help but think of those experiencing enmity as a daily event.
I have to admit that when we were putting the leaflet together I had to look up what “enmity” was and was at first sceptical to use the word. However, according to Wiktionary.org (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/enmity)
2. A state or feeling of opposition, hostility, hatred or animosity.
And this definition gives us a word that in life fits better than any single word can to describe the usease that living with the world around us can leave.
“The Lord God said to the serpent... I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers: he will strike your head and you will strike his heel.” - Genesis 3:15
But perhaps we do not need to look so far away to see warfare or enmity. Even as the sweet little child/young person I managed to find things to rebel against, even if for me that was only my piano practice or the number of times I would correct the spelling mistakes in my geography coursework. Sometimes this warfare and Emnity can be much closer than we think.
Young people can be the target of warfare in the home or witness domestic abuse taking place and not know who to turn to for advice.
So we think of Childline, Meic and CyberMentors who are there for young people to talk to when things get a bit tough and no-one around seems to care because you can’t possibly be having it as tough as those people in Egypt or them from biblical times and in this section the last line is so important so I'm going to repeat it.
For we all need to be loved and know that we are loved. These are your young people and we pray for them: We know you love them
